As a black queer woman working within both for-profit and non-profit spaces for over 10 years, I became increasingly aware of the need for dedicated restorative and affirming safe spaces for BIPOC and Queer folx. Thus, at Growth Explored my intention is to curate an environment that not only allows individuals to observe their own thoughts and feelings as relates to their behavior but additionally understand how external factors such as discrimination impact response to and perceptive of life experiences. If you find yourself feeling disconnected from the things around you, lacking motivation for the things that once excited you and going through the motions; there is room for you here. Let us collaborate to develop a plan that empowers you by evoking change through tapping into your emotions. Our hope is that in this space of healing you will learn the skills you need to live a fuller and richer life.
I have provided individual, group, couples and family therapy in both school settings as well as private practice settings for close to 25 years . I utilize behavioral management tools, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative therapies to encourage development of self, learn how to celebrate strengths and weaknesses and help clients feel accountable and more importantly, recognize they have the ability to grow. I also have a strong background in parent coaching, fertility counseling with particular focus on single moms by choice and support and aiding clients in working through life transitions. I have been working with children, adolescents , and adults for over 25 years and I have provided supervision to social workers for 10 years. My philosophy for all my clients young or old is that we must feel uncomfortable in order to truly grow. Life continually brings new challenges and successes to us: life events and circumstances that can contribute to periods of serious distress – but also potentially meaningful personal growth. This can certainly apply to those who are on a path toward achieving a degree - adjusting to new things: a degree program, city, roommates, & even ways of learning (including online classes & COVID-sensitive campus life). This also can be a time in life when past challenges can crop up again - vestiges of trauma, social anxieties, family of origin issues, etc. In addition to doing traditional talk therapy, I also conduct mind-body skills groups in which we practice in a small group setting a nice overview of techniques that can help you cope with just about anything: meditation, guided imagery, mindfulness, relaxation, etc. I incorporate these into our individual work, too, but I often recommend one of these 6-week groups to lay the foundation. Past clients have described me as someone who really listened and conveyed sincere concern, but who was also not afraid to say what they needed to hear. If you work with me, I will partner with you to identify your strengths and to empower you along the way to greater insight. We will always look for hope and positivity even when they may be hard to find. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I love using non-traditional methods such as listening to music, reading poetry, even being silly when we could use a laugh.

I work with adolescents, teenagers, and adults who have experienced or are currently experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, negative thoughts, and relationship difficulties. I help clients to develop skills to manage or eliminate symptoms related to negative thoughts, mood disorders, personality disorders and more. I take the time to fully understand what’s going on in every situation, so our solutions reflect the whole picture, not just one piece. I am skilled at evaluating, diagnosing, and treating psychological and mental health disorders; providing direct, compassionate care to clients; and helping them recognize, and put into practice preventative measures. I am committed to understanding each client and creating treatment plans to set them up for long-term success. I use motivational interviewing, TF-CBT, DBT, and relaxation strategies to help clients regulate and improve daily functioning. I enjoy helping clients find solution oriented strategies, become self-aware, and identify negative thoughts or emotions.

At Just Mind Psychiatry LLC, we understand that college life can bring unique challenges as students navigate academic demands, social relationships, work, and personal responsibilities. These transitions often contribute to feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting to change. We work with students who are seeking support to improve their mental health, manage stress effectively, and build coping skills that foster resilience and confidence. Many of the clients we serve share the desire to feel more balanced, focused, and empowered as they pursue their educational and personal goals. Our approach is professional, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s needs. We provide a safe and supportive environment where students can address concerns openly and develop strategies that enhance both academic performance and overall well-being. At Just Mind Psychiatry LLC, our goal is to support students not only in overcoming challenges but also in achieving lasting growth and success.
We are born into mystery and we are on a spiritual quest to know ourselves more fully, to discover our life's purpose and to find our personal power. My therapeutic approach involves accompanying my clients on a journey of self-discovery and self-mastery. For, as Carlos Castaneda wrote, "We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong...the amount of work is the same." Ultimately, my goal is to be a mirror that reflects back to you your own innate goodness, strength and wisdom. We repeat what we don't repair. So, my job is to be a witness to your process of awakening the healer that's already present within you. My therapeutic approach draws from psychodynamic theory, client-centered therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also use meditation, aromatherapy and creative visualization as therapeutic tools. My areas of expertise are treating depression, anxiety, grief and loss and trauma (PTSD). In addition to adult clients, I also see adolescents and families in my practice. I believe that therapy is a sacred relationship and a meeting of two souls. In short, it is an invitation to explore and to discover the depths of our own being through the mirror of relationship. If my therapeutic approach sounds like a good fit for you, then please contact me by phone or email to schedule an appointment. Are you ready?
I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and prior to working in private practice, I worked almost exclusively in university counseling centers for several years. The centerpiece of my work is building a therapeutic relationship in which you can explore and better understand yourself without fear of judgment, essentially "rewiring" your brain so that confidence and self-acceptance come to feel more like second nature to you. In the meantime, we can also build skills to better cope with anxiety, depression, and other symptoms. College life comes with a lot—academic stress, relationships, family pressure, and figuring out your future. For many young women and girls, these transitions can bring up anxiety, self-doubt, or feeling like you’re not enough. I specialize in working with young adult women who are navigating trauma, burnout, and big life changes. Using EMDR and CBT, I help you process past experiences, break free from negative thought patterns, and build confidence in who you are. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, validated, and empowered to show up as your most authentic self.
Whether you're feeling inundated by challenging life experiences, navigating life transitions, or struggling with a relationship that's depleting your personal resources, I welcome the opportunity to work with you. You don't have to figure this out on your own. The fundamental value of therapy is being able to speak with an empathic person about what is happening in your life. It is an opportunity to be heard and recognized in the midst of whatever is occurring for you. Believing that within you is the capacity to create contentment and growth, is at the heart of personal change. With empathic support and understanding comes the opportunity to develop insight around your perceptions of yourself and the world. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I employ a range of approaches based on your personal style and needs. If you're considering therapy but not sure whether it's for you, I invite you to call me for a free consultation. My office is located steps from Dupont Circle Metro. I congratulate your courage to reach out for help and look forward to accompanying you on this journey.
College can be an exciting time—but it can also feel overwhelming. Between classes, relationships, and planning for the future, it’s easy to feel anxious, lonely, or unsure of yourself.
