Therapists for college students near Boston College
Welcome, First of all, be sure to take a deep breath and know that whether you choose to work with me or someone else you will get through this process! Choosing a therapist is not an easy task. I look forward to setting up a time to speak with you after you review my clinical background and training. Most college students appreciate the sense of humor and warmth that I bring to our discussions. They feel connected and engaged with a real person who cares about them in a personal way. They also appreciate my ability to help them identify practical solutions to the academic and emotional issues that they voice in our meetings. My wide range of clinical experiences allow me to help my patients move through treatment with a sense of energy and a feeling that their strengths are both appreciated and enhanced throughout the treatment process. This close relationship allows them to open-up and identify a pathway forward in their life that is meaningful, clear, and solid. To provide you with some background I would note that I am a licensed psychologist who has worked with college students for years. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, college transition stress, social skill challenges and anger management. I also help students who need specialized support in managing the organizational, writing, or academic demands of a college environment. I meet with students in individual, group, and family therapy sessions depending on the need. I also support students and their families in situations where they are stepping down from a stay in an in-patient hospital or are trying to avoid a hospitalization. My approach to treatment is holistic in that I use a range of time-tested treatment interventions to identify and address your needs in a personalized manner. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about my approach to treatment in our first phone contact. I maintain an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School and serve as a Clinical Associate at McLean Hospital, the medical school's largest teaching psychiatric hospital. I have supervised numerous psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists over the course of my career and as such I am the Director of Training in my group practice, and I am currently training five psychology graduate students. Neuropsychological assessment can be pursued for a variety of reasons, but typically, it is to gain a deeper understanding of why you or your child may be struggling, find answers, and figure out what to do about it! Dr. Pamela Wineman will help you find these answers, and set you on a path toward building the resources and supports necessary to begin making progress in a way that is practical and realistic. Testing batteries are custom built based upon the referral question. Areas assessed might include: · Cognitive/Intellectual abilities · Academic achievement · Executive Function skills · Language · Social-emotional functioning. In particular, Dr. Wineman has expertise in administering projective testing measures which provide a more in-depth assessment of an individual’s worldview and affective traits. The use of projectives allows for exploration of one’s thoughts and feelings at the subconscious level. Dr. Wineman sees individuals with a wide range of diagnostic presentations (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disturbance, psychosis, behavioral issues, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders). She has a sub-specialty in individuals with complex mental health symptoms and psychiatric hospitalization, as well as trauma histories. Evaluations include an intake session, full assessment, and feedback session, as well as a comprehensive report with clinical diagnostic impressions and detailed recommendations. Most importantly, it it understood that many presenting problems can cause significant distress and thus, timeliness is essential. Clients can expect to receive reports within a few weeks of the final appointment.

Facing challenges can be difficult for all of us. Some seek therapy in moments of crisis; others are motivated by alleviating uncomfortable feelings and thoughts that can include anxiety, depression, sadness, anger, and so on. Still others seek treatment as part of self-discovery. It’s a privilege to support my clients through their courageous journeys of self-understanding that leads to an improved sense of wellbeing, regardless of the challenges they face. In my opinion, strength is not the absence of problems, but rather having the resilience to face them. I am looking to work with young adults who want to be their best selves. With over a decade of experience treating adolescents and families, I have helped numerous individuals and families experiencing symptoms related to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, social struggles, addictive behaviors, LGBTQ+ concerns, and more. I mindfully adapt my therapeutic approach to the needs of each client. In talking with me, you will find a therapist who is eager to lead with his ear in order to meet you where you are. My style is compassionate, empathic, welcoming, relational, empowering, and probing. I bring a sense of humor and creativity to our sessions. Your unique challenges require a flexible, evidenced-based, and individualized method of support.
Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.

I am a licensed educational psychologist and psychotherapist. There are times in life when you may struggle with social-emotional issues that are overwhelming. You may be dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, social stress, relational conflicts, low self-esteem, poor impulse control, trauma, or the challenges of college life. Navigating the myriad of social stressors frequently requires learning new skill sets, which at times may include further development of your Emotional Intelligence (EQ). My goal is to support you as the author of your story and create an approach that fits your unique needs. I focus on helping clients build those inner resources and when possible a network of support that help them weather the challenges in life and promote lasting change. My treatment modality is holistic and integrative. Everyone is unique and as individuals no one therapeutic style may work for everyone. I may incorporate parts of different therapeutic approaches to create a custom fit based on each client's needs.

Hello, I’m Ruolin Xie, an outpatient therapist at Orange Door Collaborative. Since earning my Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis in 2016, I have provided psychotherapy and clinical support to individuals and families of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds. My clinical specialties include depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), grief and loss, LGBTQ+ concerns, interpersonal and relational challenges, parenting stress, and cultural adjustment issues. In my practice, I strive to create an affirming, empowering, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strength-based, and client-centered therapeutic space. I dedicate myself to bringing both compassionate presence and active collaboration, offering skill-building where appropriate, while actively listening to each person’s unique experiences. My approach integrates neuroscience-informed methods with a holistic mind-body philosophy, allowing for tailored treatment plans that support both effective symptom relief and meaningful, long-term healing. I offer both short-term therapy for immediate needs and longer-term therapy for trauma recovery and self-exploration. I am trained in a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). As a multilingual clinician, I offer therapy in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. A quote that continues to resonate with me is from Leonard Cohen: “There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.” While I don’t seek to romanticize suffering — pain can be disorienting and deeply isolating—I believe that with skilled support, it is possible to uncover the human resilience, self-authenticity, and fierce self-compassion that emerge through healing. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help you explore whether working together feels like the right fit. Please feel free to reach out by phone or email—I'd be honored to support you on your path.
Psychotherapy can help individuals identify the cause of pain, gain insight, expand coping skills, and remove barriers that get in the way of meaningful relationships. Looking inward and exploring your thoughts and feelings can be a daunting and scary process. I hope I can join you in your journey towards healing and positive change. I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with college students, particularly with students with marginalized identities. I have 15+ years of experience working at college counseling centers as a clinician, supervisor, director of training, and director of diversity and inclusion. My approach to therapy is centered on social justice, developmental, and relational psychodynamic principals. This lens allows me to pay attention to the impact of early childhood and family experiences, social-cultural factors, relational patterns, systematic oppression, and self awareness when working with individuals. I believe that a truly healing therapeutic relationship explores and fosters all intersecting identities of a person.

Finding a good therapy match is crucial to bringing about the change that you desire in your life. Working with someone where you feel seen, understood and challenged in a non-threatening way creates the safety to explore the unknown and grow into your full potential. I have been in private practice for 16 years and I trained and worked at Tufts University Counseling Center for 4 years. In the wise words of author Sharon Salzberg, "If I opened my heart and mind big enough to take in the suffering, then there would be healing- not because the suffering itself is redemptive or healing, but because of the opening I was cultivating in the face of it."
