Therapists for college students near Duke University
Working with me means gaining practical coping skills and tools you can start using right away. I rely on my background in psychology to implement cognitive and behavioral changes. I use scientifically supported methods like CBT, DBT, exposure, and mindfulness skills to create real, lasting changes. Our sessions will go beyond exploration and reflection — therapy with me is not 'just talking.' It feels great to vent, but it feels even better to have a path forward. I will gently confront and challenge you when I notice you might be holding yourself back. We all have a tendency to lean into old patterns and unproductive coping skills, especially when it’s all you know. I’m here to hold you accountable and help you grow in a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental way.
If you're feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed, you're not alone. Therapy can help you regain clarity and control—and I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way. I offer therapy for children (10+), teens, and young adults who are looking for support, growth, and relief from life’s challenges. I specialize in helping clients manage anxiety, overwhelming emotions, trauma, and stress by providing a safe, supportive space where you can be heard, understood, and empowered. I incorporate evidence-based practices to help clients build real-life tools to manage overwhelming emotions, improve coping skills, and heal from life's challenges. For younger clients, I use techniques to help them express themselves and process feelings in developmentally appropriate ways. Whether you're navigating school pressures, identity exploration, young adult transitions, or just feeling stuck—I’ll meet you where you are and walk alongside you toward where you want to be. Let’s work together and walk this journey toward healing!
Hello, and welcome to my page! Over the past 15 years, I have worked as a mental health counselor, counselor educator, and supervisor for counselors-in-training. While I specialize in counseling clients with anxiety disorders, I welcome anyone to my practice who is looking to make a positive change in their lives. Making the choice to come to counseling is a big step, and I hope to be a part of the process that leads you towards a happier, healthier life. One of the things that keeps me energized about being a mental health counselor is that every one of the people I see is unique. Everyone has their own experiences, their own way of seeing the world, and their own goals for their future. This has pushed me over the years to get specialized training in a number of therapeutic interventions including: Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Process Therapy, and Transactional Analysis to name a few. I find that being able to pull from a number of therapeutic interventions allows me to meet the unique needs of my clients and to provide the best care possible. My past clients have described me as a combination of supportive, intuitive, and matter-of-fact in my counseling style. I believe that the best relationships (counseling and otherwise) are built on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding, and I strive towards this with my clients. I've found that when my clients feel heard, understood, and appreciated, that we can achieve great strides towards whatever they are working towards. The counseling process isn't always easy, but it can be life changing. Let's see what we can achieve together.
It is my goal to provide a space where you feel heard, appreciated and inspired. I specialize in assisting those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, isolation, frustration and various life challenges; dysfunction related to family/friends/work/romantic relationships; challenges with relationship building; and individuals with a history of foster care/adoption who want to explore related emotions. What you can expect is an experience tailored to you. I am encouraging, supportive and compassionate.
Thank you for selecting Ellie Mental Health-Raleigh and me for your counseling needs. I look forward to working with you in accomplishing your goals. My counseling experience includes work with social anxiety, anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues and life transitions. I have worked with college-aged students, children, adolescents, families, and individuals. I believe in a collaborative counselor-client relationship where clients can gain the skills to live a full, productive life. I also work from a holistic perspective where physical, and spiritual is just as important as mental wellbeing.
The students I work best with are often the ones who look like they are doing fine. You are getting the work done and showing up, but you are tired in a way sleep does not fix, and there is a low hum of dread that never fully goes away. Many of them were the ones who always did well before, so struggling feels like admitting something. What comes up most: anxiety that was manageable at home and is not manageable here, being far from family and not wanting to worry them, a relationship taking up more room than your classes, and family things that did not stay behind when you left. I am licensed in eleven states, so if you are at school in one and your family is in another, we can usually keep going over the breaks instead of starting over. You do not need a diagnosis to come in.

As a counselor, my professional identity is one of authenticity, curiosity, and empathy. I care deeply about helping my clients improve their lives. I believe that starts with the two of us forming a genuine connection so that I can best understand your personality, your worldview, and the problems you are facing – the world can be a tough place and we all have times when we could use someone to listen and understand us. I will repeatedly check in with you to assess your goals for therapy and make sure that we are making progress towards meeting those goals. In our sessions, I will use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify and reduce the types of thinking that can lead to negative emotions. I will also incorporate other techniques such as mindfulness meditation that many clients find useful. Together, we will work as a team to confront the issues that are troubling you. I received my BS in Biology from Duke University and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. I've also been a research assistant in Princeton University's departments of social psychology and neuroscience. I try to stay up to date with current research and use only empirically validated modalities with my clients.
My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can show up honestly. Together, we’ll work toward better self-understanding, more effective coping tools, and a stronger sense of confidence and direction. I work with kids, teens, college students, and adults navigating anxiety, perfectionism, ADHD, relationship challenges, identity exploration, low self-esteem, and major life transitions. Finding a therapist you actually feel comfortable with matters. If you are interested in an introduction call, I’d love to connect.
College can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. I work with students navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, identity concerns, relationship stress, and big life transitions. My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, which means I focus on building a safe and supportive space where you can feel understood. Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way and develop strategies that help you feel more confident, balanced, and connected.

I specialize in meeting with people experiencing anxiety, attention difficulty, impulsive/risk-taking behaviors, depression, and interpersonal conflict. My first priority is in collaborating with my clients to create spaces where change feels possible. I am especially attentive to the ideas of reducing stigma surrounding mental health care, trust associated with strict confidentiality, and increasing motivation using strengths- and evidence-based techniques. I bring an integrative approach to therapy, combining aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and DBT (including Mindfulness) to find the best way forward for each client. I have experiences working with clients of all ages, across different clinical settings. I spent much of the past decade living and working overseas, managing an Eco-Lodge in northern Malawi, teaching English at a hagwon in South Korea, and working remotely as a therapist from Brazil. I enjoy playing basketball, reading (mostly sci-fi!), rock climbing, and managing far too many podcast subscriptions.

I strive to assist clients in rebuilding weakened relationships while also assisting them in their own personal restoration. I also have a passion for working with clients who identify themselves as members of LGBTQ+. System Counseling, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral and Cognitive Restructuring approaches, are blended with Motivational Interviewing techniques to form the basic theoretical foundation of my work with clients. I offer Individual, Couples, and Marriage Counseling, Christian Counseling, Life and Executive Coaching, Consultation, and Clinical supervision. I believe in your ability to find the answers to your life’s dilemmas. I see myself as a facilitator within the therapeutic relationship, providing objective guidance and support, as well as, challenging unhealthy thought processes while creating a warm, accepting, and soothing environment in which to work. Let’s redesign the life you were created to live.

I specialize in women’s mental health and provide virtual therapy for young adult women navigating anxiety, academic stress, life transitions, executive functioning challenges, relationship concerns, and self-esteem.
My clinical practice mainly consists of fellow queer and neurodivergent folx who struggle with complex trauma. Common concerns include self-abandonment through people pleasing, exploring gender/sexual identity, executive dysfunction, immense shame/guilt, perfectionism, identifying community supports, and processing underlying traumatic experiences. My clients often come into session looking to better understand who they are and what really works for them. Many times they feel so detached from themselves and their own bodies that it has been hard to even know what they want from life or who they are. I am EMDR trained and primarily work with clients to map out and process traumatic and other stressful experiences to improve self-understanding, self-acceptance, and self-compassion. My goal is to help people feel more connected with themselves, their needs, and find approaches that help reduce overall distress and improve relationships. I understand that therapy may be new experience for you or you may have had negative experiences with therapy in the past. Nevertheless, I strive to be mindful of and responsive to the individual needs of my clients. I am open to feedback and happy to adjust approaches as needed. Please feel free to reach out. I would love to work with you!
