We all have moments in our lives when we need support. Especially during these challenging times, meeting life’s demands is tough. Feeling stuck might be preventing you from moving forward and living your best life. You may be feeling overwhelmed, and it may seem like you’re facing more stress than you can handle. Therapy can give you the tools to get through life’s many challenges. It can offer you a way to let go of suffering, provide a sense of well-being, and allow you to learn, grow, and thrive despite what you’re facing. Making the decision to begin therapy is a healthy step toward making positive changes and moving toward creating the life you want for yourself. I have been trained in a variety of evidence-based practices, but since each person is unique, I will tailor my approach to your specific needs. My most important goal when we meet will be to create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to work toward healing, growth, improved self-awareness, and feeling good about yourself. Due to my background and experiences, I would especially enjoy the opportunity to work with nontraditional students, first-generation students, and international students. Please contact me today for your free initial 20-minute phone conversation. I look forward to hearing from you!

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Greenville, NC

My name is Chaney, and I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I am passionate about helping people improve their mental health and overcome the obstacles that they face. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I am affirming to LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse folks. I also have special training and interest in helping folks with diabetes cope with diabetes distress and burnout. It is my belief that this journey to mental wellness is a partnership, and I look forward to finding unique solutions for each person I meet. I help folks achieve their health goals by prescribing medications, recommending lifestyle changes, and providing supportive talk therapy to develop coping skills. I want to work with you to find the best solution to fit your circumstances and needs. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story. We each have challenges to overcome and at times need a helping hand to do it. It can be hard to acknowledge that something is wrong, much less that you might need help. So, rest assured that I will be glad to team up with you on the path to wellness.

Everyone is responsible for protecting and nurturing their mental health. Navigating through difficult life experiences can manifest stress, unhappiness, anxiety, anger, etc. Sometimes, we develop harmful ways to cope with these life experiences such as isolating ourselves, lashing out at others, abusing substances, among other things. It can be difficult to take the first step and reach out for therapy/counseling. However, taking that first step means that you're prepared to figure out how you can improve your circumstance and move forward. It's my mission to offer you support through your process of achieving mental wellness!

A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

As a Dialectical Behavior Therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. Are you having trouble adjusting to life transitions? Are you bothered that you aren't good enough? Are you concerned that having emotionally immature parents has caused you to struggle in adulthood? Your experiences with transitions could become overwhelming, causing a lack of focus, a decrease in self-esteem, and second-guessing yourself. Imagine understanding your struggle to make changes or adapt. Imagine understanding the impact of a lack of emotional maturity or intimacy. There is a way to change these patterns in your life. You can overcome the blockage and barriers of change. I primarily use Internal Family Systems and the Change Triangle . These therapies help identify the internal attachment of faulty thoughts and emotions and help to explore ways to "detach" and live your life with purpose. Over time, you can successfully change how you think and feel about yourself and the world. I can help you understand your self-capacities by offering individual, couples, and family therapy focusing on the impact life transitions may have on your present and future inner peace and happiness.

Does life feel overwhelming in a way that’s hard to explain? Maybe your brain never slows down, or focusing feels impossible. Maybe you feel deeply but struggle to put it into words. Or maybe you've spent so much time adapting to what others expect that you aren’t sure who you really are. If you've always felt a little different—like the world wasn’t built with you in mind—you’re not alone. Whether you're facing stress, anxiety, identity questions, or body image struggles, you deserve a space where you don’t have to mask or explain yourself. My approach is affirming, collaborative, and tailored to you. We’ll move at your pace, exploring strategies to help you feel more in control, more connected, and more at home in yourself. I blend person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and polyvagal approaches with mindfulness, breathwork, and practical tools to support focus, emotions, relationships, and self-trust. Rooted in social justice, I understand the challenges of feeling different or navigating societal pressures around identity and body image. Here, you’re free to explore and heal.

Many of the students I work best with share a common thread: they feel overwhelmed by the transition of college life and want a safe place to sort through it all. Some are managing anxiety, stress, or burnout from balancing classes, work, and relationships. Others are navigating questions of identity, independence, or self-confidence. What they all have in common is a desire for a supportive space where they can be honest about what’s hard and learn tools to feel more grounded. My approach is down-to-earth and collaborative, so if you’re looking for someone who understands the challenges of student life and wants to walk with you through them, you might find a good fit here.
