College can be exciting — and overwhelming. If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or just not like yourself, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. Hi, my name is Dr. Evan Podolak. I am a psychologist and work with teens and adults to help them if they are struggling with anxiety, depression, fears, stress and relationship issues. I work collaboratively with students to help them think about their problems in a more helpful way and to learn better ways to cope with their daily experiences.
From the very beginning, with sensitivity and compassion, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space in which you can express thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires that you may feel unable to share elsewhere. I believe that constructive change occurs when we work collaboratively to develop insight into your current struggles; only then can we find ways to help you move forward. I have experience and interest in working with people with anxiety, trauma histories, and relationship issues. I enjoy working with creative people and those who wish to explore various aspects of their identities, including people who are LGBTQ+. Another of my strengths is in helping young people navigate the transition into adulthood. I have been practicing for more than ten years and I have specific training in psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and existentially oriented psychotherapy.

Loss is a quiet grief that doesn't conform to the world's pace, especially when we need stillness as well as acknowledgment. Whether your loss involves a companion animal, a relationship, a career path, or a life that looks OK to others but feels hollow to you, your circumstances deserve to be honored and processed with care. For many years, I have been drawn to working with people who carry more than they can say out loud. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, where I sat with families as they navigated some of their toughest moments. Those experiences, as well as my own, inspired me to become a therapist and have informed and shaped how I understand deep pain. I employ a variety of professional modalities, along with humor and a touch of sharp wit, when working with clients, centering them as they move forward with their lives. Grief is not a problem to solve, regardless of the type of loss you're experiencing, what others say, or what hustle culture expects from you.

As students or professionals, it is more common than we recognize to be depleted by our daily routine, school or family; to experience self doubt, become overwhelmed or to live with ongoing stress/trauma. Without an opportunity for mental restoration we can become burnt out or disconnected by persistent feelings of depression, anxiety, frustration, apathy, grief or even chronic pain and illness. My aim for each client is to help you develop a greater sense of self-awareness, balance and control over your life. Even if you aren't quite sure of what it is you need - we'll figure it out together. I use a mixture of mixture of traditional therapeutic approaches and Nature Based Therapy (NBT), done either outdoors or in combination with telehealth. This could look as simple as a walk in a park or with more, immersive sensory experiences in nature to get your body in motion and feeling more alive. The ultimate goal is to reduce stress and increase your social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

In our work together, I help you understand what's happening beneath the surface, recognize the patterns keeping you stuck, and learn what to actually do differently. Therapy with me isn't just about talking about the problem week after week. We'll work toward helping you communicate better, manage difficult emotions, make healthier decisions, set boundaries, heal from painful experiences, and feel more in control of your life. You don't have to have everything figured out before you come to therapy. You just have to be ready to start.

Being self aware is a fantastic attribute ! Though sometimes it can get in the way of feeling our feelings. We may click in this therapeutic relationship if you feel like your self awareness is a double edged sword, where you can see what's going on but can't seem to change or manuever life as it goes.
