***Currently serving individuals in California and Oregon*** Hello! My name is Carlota, and I am a social justice advocate; a believer in science; a fierce and overly-obsessed dog mom to two wacky pups; an immigrant; and steadfast in my conviction that we have a fundamental obligation to help one another if we have the means and capacity to do so. I am a licensed clinical social worker, and have been in practice since 2013. I completed my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in 2008, and received my Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2013 from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. I embrace evidence-based and research-supported therapies, while also honoring the power of the therapeutic relationship and process. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, depression, Bipolar Disorder, anxiety and panic, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, and life transitions. I am a trained teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depression (IPT-D). I also have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) for Bipolar Disorder, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for the treatment of PTSD in children and teens. Why might I be a good fit for you? Because I get it, and I am whole-heartedly with you on this journey. I know that coming to therapy is a profound undertaking, and that what I will ask of you in this process is not easy. Introspection, change, and confronting avoidance are hard, and so I strive to provide a safe, authentic, and collaborative environment that honors your story, experience, and identity with compassion and without judgment; I strive to be worthy of bearing witness to your story. William Temple House works with 26 or more volunteer, staff, and intern therapists to provide affordable counseling to the people of Portland. We offer sessions for low or no cost - our hope is that finances are not ever a barrier to people receiving counseling. We are committed to providing supportive and impactful counseling services that are based on the client's preference and need. Our services are all person-centered, strengths-focused, and trauma-informed. Because we work with so many therapists the information about our providers, modalities and approaches, and specialties changes regularly - if you are looking to work with someone of a particular identity or specialty that you do not see listed now, check back in the future. All of our counselors are trained and supported to work with people of identities different from their own with intentionality, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness and they all undergo continuous supervision to ensure they are meeting the needs of the individuals they work with.
Are you struggling with feeling disconnected from your life and the things that are important to you? Do you feel lost and unsure of the next steps you'd like to take in your life? It is so difficult when life throws pain and suffering your way, when you feel you have little control amidst chaos and stress, or when you feel stuck in routines and habits that are no longer working for you. It takes courage to recognize when you need a change, to take the steps you need to honor yourself, and to help yourself move forward in ways that are most aligned with how you want to live your life. Therapy can help you acknowledge, honor, and create space for painful experiences while also cultivating a sense of well-being and a life you're proud of. Our work will focus on valued living - living a life that is consistent with who you are, what's important to you, what you want to stand for, and how you want to move through this world, despite hardship. I strive to create a safe space for you to explore where you are at in life, where you want to go, and how we can get you there together. I’ll walk alongside you (and cheer you on!) as you realize your own strengths, connect to your values, and begin living life in the ways that are most meaningful to you. You've come to the right place - let's talk. Note: I am exclusively providing services online at this time.

You’re different from those around you. You sometimes feel stuck in patterns that don't work anymore, but you don't know what else you're supposed to do. Maybe you are adjusting to being in school here in the US, and the cultural differences between you and your professors, worry about what’s happening at home, and struggling to find comfort in an impermanent place. I can help. My ideal clients are hard working and driven, both by your own strengths and a desire to make your family and maybe even your country of origin proud. I work with students struggling with anxiety, trauma, ADHD and attention troubles, conflict with family and friends and figuring out systems that work for them. I love working with queer and trans students especially on figuring out how you can make space in your academic field of interest as a queer person. I provide compassionate, trauma-aware, attachment-focused therapy to help clients heal from trauma, manage their ADHD, and reduce anxiety. I love working with international students in college and university: you’re here to make the world better and are dedicated to your education and career. As an Adult Third Culture Kid (TCK) I especially want to serve that community. I also am LGBTQ+ affirming and polyamory-aware. I am Jewish and like supporting Jewish students navigate tradition, spirituality and living with non-Jews for the first time, and am comfortable supporting Hindu, Muslim, Sikh & Buddhist clients, as well as clients from other religions and traditions. I can help you make meaning of your time here, and work on developing coping skills for worry, loneliness and sadness. I use parts work, mindfulness, emotion regulation skill building and story telling (IFS, DBT, Narrative, Emotion Focused and EMDR, for folks who like a little jargon) to help clients heal trauma, work through conflict and build a better life for themselves.
I believe that therapy is an investment in oneself, a space to learn about your personal emotions, life patterns, and ways you want to live your life. Everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental individual in their corner! As an old soul, I have a deep well of compassion which I balance with some "real talk" that encourages one to examine their lives. I enjoy working with people throughout the life spectrum.
I find that the people I work best with are curious about their own patterns and are seeking to create better relationships with themselves and the other important people in their lives. Together lets figure out which parts of your life would benefit from trying something new and which parts would benefit from some compassionate acceptance. We can re-write the parts of your story that feel the most stuck and find new ways to grow into the person you want to be.
The world is a tumultuous place right now and therapy can be a helpful tool for navigating the difficulties. I work with clients with a wide variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, ADHD, low esteem, perfectionism, difficulty with boundaries and communication, and trauma. Therapy can be a helpful tool for working through difficulties as well as getting to know ourselves better. I believe we all have the capacity to heal, face the challenges in our lives, and find joy & ease.
I work with individuals, couples and adult families who experience trauma, anxiety, depression, identity or life transitions, and relationship struggle. Many of the people I work with are queer, neurodivergent, non-monogamous, disabled or chronically ill. I take a liberatory, community oriented approach to therapy and will work with you to co-create a container that supports your innate capacity for healing, growth and connection. I draw from narrative therapy and humanism in my therapeutic approach. This means that I'll invite you to expand, deconstruct and reimagine the stories that you hold about yourself and the world around you while offering empathy, reflection and guidance that that celebrates your humanity and your innate capacity for growth, healing and connection. I’m genderqueer, non-monogamous, live with chronic illness, and love being outdoors and growing food. I’m sex positive, disability affirming, neurodiversity affirming, and my approach to therapy is informed by lineages of abolitionism, disability justice and queer feminism. If you think we could be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you!
Do you feel ready to explore and heal what’s getting in the way of you living your most joyful, creative, connected life? Are depression and anxiety keeping you either feeling weighed down, dull, and purposeless, or else on high alert and living from a place of fear and busyness round the clock? Are habitual thought-loops and tensions in the body keeping you in a perpetual state of mistrust, perfectionism/people-pleasing, and/or judgement towards yourself and others? Often, depression and anxiety are the result of an impulse getting “stuck” in the system and not being able complete its cycle. In my practice, I use a blend of Somatic Experiencing, Voice Dialogue Parts Work, and mindfulness-based present moment inquiry to create a compassionate and attuned space of inner exploration and healing. My goal is to help you move through "unfinished business" stored in the body and the mind, so that you can live in greater wellbeing and freedom. I am here to help you gently release the shame, fear and mistrust that may be holding you back from delighting in your life and in your connections to humans and to the more-than-human world.
I work with folks who want to connect with their emotional worlds and nurture relationships both with themselves and others. As a cis-gender male, I have often had the thought that it seems like everyone else got the guide-book to relationships except me. I, like many of you, am someone who was raised as in a context that did not prize or promote emotional self-inquiry, self-connection and direct communication. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, anger, shame or dissatisfaction with your life, there is space for you here. I practice mindfulness-based therapy, which means that in our work together I may invite you to pause or slow down so that we can bring curiosity to your inner world. Your experience is important and, if we work together, I commit to walking along side you in what is an act of courage not acknowledged enough: reconnecting with and honoring ourselves. Perhaps you are longing for a more satisfying way of existing in this world. Not to fret, this has been the case for many of us and the path back home to an aligned state of being has been tread by many before you. I have helped many like you and would be delighted to explore working together.

Hi, I'm Grace. I work with young adults who are recovering from traumatic experiences or are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and fear. Many of my clients are highly sensitive and seeking relief from fears or worries that interfere with their life, are navigating the effects of a recent traumatic event, or grew up being told they are “too shy” or “too sensitive.” I believe you aren’t “too” anything. I value working with college students because I first sought my own therapy at the student counseling center of my university during a time I felt extremely overwhelmed and couldn’t understand why it was so hard for me to relax. It was transformative to process my experiences with a professional who could put language to what I was thinking and feeling, and offer tools to help me move forward. This was one of the major reasons I decided to pursue my own career as a therapist. Seeking therapy can feel vulnerable and it often takes time to build trust. Whatever your story is, my goal is to create a safe and compassionate space to facilitate healing, reflection, and growth.
