I am a License Professional Counselor and a Substance Abuse Counselor who has been practicing for over 27 years. I have vast experience in working with both mental health and addiction in a variety of settings. I like to work with my clients to help them improve their emotional health and relationships with others. I will help you gain insight and process your presenting problems and teach you healthy coping skills to manage your emotions, behaviors and thoughts using approaches that are tailored to you. I use a client centered approach to meet you where you are at and help you move to where you want to be.
I offer a calming presence, safe space, coping skills, and acceptance. I often use an eclectic approach, blending different techniques and theoretical approaches to fit your needs, as every individual is different. I understand that every person has their own unique experience and perspective. I am willing to explore with them every step of the way to meet their goals at their own pace. I will work to encourage, support, and validate the process and potential for change alongside you. I am hoping to work with individual's who are old enough to utilize technology, looking for an additional support with their anxiety, depression, motivation, family dynamics, life changes, emotional regulation, self-identity, and trauma.
You may look capable and successful on the outside, but inside, you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or unsure of yourself. Many of the students I work best with are used to setting high expectations for themselves. You may put pressure on yourself to succeed, struggle with perfectionism, or feel like you are falling behind even when others think you are doing well. I also enjoy working with international students and students navigating different cultures. You may be balancing school with family expectations, relationships, questions about who you are and where you belong, or the stress of adapting to life away from home. Past difficult experiences may also be affecting how you feel and respond to stress today. In our work together, you do not have to have everything figured out. We can slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and find practical ways to manage difficult emotions and everyday stress. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, understand yourself more deeply, and approach your life and relationships with greater confidence and choice.
You might be able to describe your problems as… → BURNT OUT from living life on survival mode. → IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy the present because of the the guilt of the past, and worry of the future. → DISCONNECTED from yourself, as if you are a passive bystander watching the problems in your life create chaos and havoc. → WITNESSING yourself saying and doing things that are hurting the people you care about. → RESIGNED to where the problems will take your life You might be feeling hopeless and resigned with the problems in your life, and yet YOU are HERE. And that makes all the difference! Because I truly, genuinely believe that in our work together, we will find many more ways in which you have asserted or acted in a way that shows you are not ok with the way things currently are. You are not ok with what has happened to you growing up. You deserve to reclaim your life from these problems and reconnect with yourself in more meaningful way.

I started Influential Connections Counseling, after having worked 11 years with adults and families in the human service areas of abuse, neglect, trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, relationship challenges, and various mental health diagnoses. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified social worker. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. A relationship that relies on trust, connection, empathy, and mutual respect. It can take time to build the therapeutic relationship. I often describe therapy as a space to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly. Life is challenging, ever changing, and beautiful. Whether life's changes are positive or negative, it influences our mental health, our relationships, and our physical bodies. The therapeutic process happens in session and in your daily life as you build self-awareness and enhance skills to obtain your goal(s).
It's my belief to "Keep life simple." Life is stressful enough. Balancing work, family, social life, friends, and relationships can be overwhelming at times. I practice from a harm reduction holistic theoretical orientation. It combines person-centered (respect for autonomy) with CBT/systemic therapy (a critical look at culture and attachments). By identifying wants and needs, I can assist clients with locating triggers and establishing healthy coping skills to alleviate any mental, emotional, or physical stress. I work particularly with parents and clients dealing with ADHD, Life choices, anxiety, self-esteem and accountability. I assist clients in adjusting to unexpected life transitions by constructing healthier boundaries with themselves and others to balance their lifestyles. I value the importance of creating a supportive, transparent, and collaborative relationship throughout the therapy process. I do this by providing a safe space for clients to embrace their vulnerabilities. Difficult experiences often show up in the body. Accessing embodied experience helps clients evolve. These shifts in the body have a corresponding effect on our actions, routines, and relationships. Through mindful awareness, we discover how the body holds our experiences. We learn to recognize habitual patterns and create new ones. The healing starts now...
