Hi! My name is Melissa Mason (she/her) and I'm a seasoned therapist with an established history of working with adolescents & young adults. I possess clinical expertise in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma & other co-occurring disorders & I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) designed to reduce symptoms of trauma & PTSD. In addition to my clinical training I have been extensively trained in the use of yoga & mindfulness as a complimentary intervention. I recognize the strong connection between mind & body & work to help clients develop practices that enhance their overall wellness. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that an effective therapist builds good relationships, built on mutual respect & trust. This sets the tone for the work & allows the client to feel safe enough to be vulnerable. I work with clients to develop insight into the function of their presenting problem without shame or judgement, allowing them to find alternative ways to get their needs met. I believe in taking a multidimensional approach to treatment & work collaboratively with allied professionals to ensure each patient is getting the most comprehensive care possible. I whole heartedly believe recovery from whatever you are struggling with is possible & aim to impart that hope to my clients. My approach is warm, open & non-judgmental. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/melissa-mason-fishkill-ny/789530

ADHD is more than just "having difficulty focusing," and no, not "everyone has a little bit of ADHD" as many people claim nowadays. The impact of ADHD is pervasive and can keep you from reaching your goals, connecting with others, maintaining a routine despite knowing that it would be helpful, and constantly "masking" for fear that you will not be accepted as you are. Life administrative tasks feel daunting and get postponed repeatedly, and the negative self-talk that ensues as a result takes a further toll and increases avoidance. I can help you understand the brain science of ADHD, incorporate aspects of mindfulness, somatic work, and other modalities to overcome these challenges, and regain your mental energy. You'll learn to work with your neurodivergence, NOT against it. I work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, lens and am mindful about how culture, immigration journeys and systemic racism play a role in how someone compensates for their ADHD.
I am a warm, skilled clinician who works with young adults and adolescents. You may be in crisis or wishing you felt better. You'd like to figure out what's in the way and how to move forward. Some of my clients struggle with substance use and are looking for support in abstinence or harm reduction. My clients experience relief as a result of our work addressing stress, challenging transitions, and general feelings of being stuck. I provide highly attuned, effective psychotherapy. I am psychoanalytically trained but integrate practical interventions to improve your daily functioning. The effectiveness of my work with clients has to do with the importance I place on connecting with them, making them feel seen and understood. The therapeutic alliance is everything. Together, we will look for connections between your experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, to help you move forward with greater ease. Please reach out. I offer a complementary twenty minute phone consultation, and I’d be happy to speak with you.
Together, we will explore the challenges you experience and build new skills to improve quality of life. I have several years of experience with college/adult populations and student-athletes. I use a Holistic approach for treatment that emphasizes CBT and DBT to increase success when coping with stress. When these skills are built, I favor utilizing IFST to embrace all aspects of who you are and learn how each of those aspects can be used for you to become fullest version of yourself!
I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York, Arizona, and Colorado with seven years of experience. I work with people who are feeling stressed, anxious, stuck, or just not quite themselves. Whether you’re navigating big life changes, relationship challenges, or figuring out what you want next, therapy can be a space to pause, reflect, and start feeling more grounded. My approach is collaborative. I use tools from CBT and EMDR, but mostly I focus on really getting to know you, your story, your experiences, and what actually helps you feel better. I also take into account how culture, identity, and environment shape what we go through. My goal is to create a space where you can be open, explore what’s working (and what’s not), and feel supported in making meaningful change. If you’re curious about therapy but not sure where to start, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can get a feel for my style and see if we’d be a good fit.
You may find yourself feeling soft spoken, timid, and meek- but secretly waiting to speak- you feel like you are tirelessly trying to keep pace in a world that does not align with your rhythm. If feelings of anxiety are consuming or camouflaging themselves as reoccurring & normal, I am an expert in supporting you in breaking out of your shell, and dismantling old narratives about anxiety, and ADHD. I support clients in exploring their pasts to inform their future, and take control of their narrative. I believe building a healthy connection with yourself is the springboard to living a more fulfilling life and can enhance your ability to form deeper relationships, and show up for yourselves and others in a more grounded way. I do not practice with a one-size fits all approach, and empower clients to take the lead in their experience. I service NY & CT residents. My clients are often experiencing increased stress, worry, sadness, and a feeling of uneasiness that impacts their daily life. These feelings may be intensified by struggles in personal relationships. I begin therapy in a holistic manner, learning who my clients are as a whole person and working collaboratively with them to determine the most effective course of treatment. I practice through a psychodynamic lens, helping clients to understand how experiences from their past might be informing their present challenges. I offer CBT and DBT techniques to help clients reframe negative thought patterns, sit more comfortably with anxious feelings, and implement improved communication skills to achieve more meaningful, joyful relationships. I integrate creative elements into the therapeutic space, inviting clients to move into into breathwork, journaling, music, and art as a means to foster deepened exploration and insight into the issues at hand. I bring warmth, humor, and deep insight into the therapeutic relationship. I understand the vulnerability therapy entails and believes feeling comfortable and connected to your therapist is integral. I believe in the power of the therapeutic process to help you move through difficult experiences towards greater feelings of connection, self-compassion, and wholeness. On the practical side of things, I am a Licenced Creative Arts Therapist and board-certified music therapist working with young adults in prominent teaching hospitals and in private practice for over 7 years. I graduated with my master’s in music psychotherapy from New York University in 2014 and am currently completing training as an advanced analytical music psychotherapy practitioner.
