You may find yourself feeling soft spoken, timid, and meek- but secretly waiting to speak- you feel like you are tirelessly trying to keep pace in a world that does not align with your rhythm. If feelings of anxiety are consuming or camouflaging themselves as reoccurring & normal, I am an expert in supporting you in breaking out of your shell, and dismantling old narratives about anxiety, and ADHD. I support clients in exploring their pasts to inform their future, and take control of their narrative. I believe building a healthy connection with yourself is the springboard to living a more fulfilling life and can enhance your ability to form deeper relationships, and show up for yourselves and others in a more grounded way. I do not practice with a one-size fits all approach, and empower clients to take the lead in their experience. I service NY & CT residents. Melvinik Simmons was born and raised in Brownsville Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a single parent household in the projects of Brooklyn was challenging. Where she comes from truly makes her the person she is today. "I saw everything that you can imagine, drugs, violence, even witnessing my childhood friend jump off a building". She knew at a young age people were "broken and felt helpless". Melvinik’s passion and mission is to inspire people and work with them to achieve their goals. "I am not only a therapist, but I care a great deal about my clients who I work with". "I am you and you are me" My mission is to help heal broken hearts. "I have been through a lot of what you may be going through, and I am here to tell you that healing is possible". Melvinik has been in the helping profession for over 20 years. She specializes in depression, grief/loss, anxiety and PTSD. She was a social worker for several foster care agencies, a supervisor for a crisis unit, a counselor for YMCA, and a therapist in the behavioral health department for several years at Richmond University Medical Center (N.Y) and St Luke University Health Network (P.A.). She has been in private practice (Talk Trust Heal LLC) for 4 years providing virtual therapy to clients in N.Y. P.A. and S.C. where she currently resides. She has an integrative approach combined with different styles, modalities, and methods to promote wellness. "I don't have a "one size fit's all approach" I immediately like to start where my clients are and offer a non-judgmental platform where they are able to talk in a safe environment. She is dedicated and committed to her clients and their mental health. Her motto is "Trust the therapeutic process, talk about the presenting issues and heal".

When life presents us with challenges and unexpected turns, we are given options for an opportunity for change; to not allow them to define our present or our future. Many of us face difficult situations that can get in the way of a full, satisfying life. Each individual has the strength within to grow and find a healthy balance. Sometimes, we need a little extra guidance to see that life's challenges can be transformed into healing opportunities. Therapy can offer a breath of hope to those who feel lost, stuck and alone. One of the most important factors in successful therapy is finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Therapy also provides exploration on learning how to find your true sense of self. Working together helps develop a better understanding of yourself, while re-claiming your personal strengths. It takes courage to start the process of building a trusting, therapeutic relationship. Finding the right fit in a therapist is a really important step. Telling your story and gaining a deeper understanding of yourself will have an enormous, positive impact. Let's connect to uncover your full potential.

I strive to create an atmosphere of trust, respect, and compassion that allows people to become more self-aware, to find healing, and to living a more fulfilling life. I'm very familiar with the needs and issues of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students because I worked for two years at the University Counseling Center and have had many students in my practice. I offer individual and relationship counseling and integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques based on the particular needs of each client or couple. I provide support and direction, but also find it essential to work collaboratively with my clients. And, I not only help address the specific problems clients bring to therapy, but also strive to assist them in identifying and fostering their specific strengths and abilities. I have a teletherapy only practice. I’ve worked with a large number of students via this format and it has proved very successful. Many people like it because it's so convenient, especially when they’re juggling a busy schedule or don't have transportation. I’m always glad to have an initial conversation to answer any questions you might have about teletherapy or my practice. A note about insurance and payment: Some insurances other than those listed under the finance section may be covered. Actual costs for therapy are based on your insurance's copay amounts. Most clients with insurance only pay between $10-$40 per session. If I'm not able to accept your insurance, session costs will be based on your income if you are emancipated from your parents or a graduate student. If you are still a dependent in your parent's household then your fee would be based on your parent's combined income.

Finding a therapist can feel more overwhelming than continuing to bear the weight of stress and anxiety alone. Questions of identity, difficulty finding meaning, and navigating life’s transitions can often feel insurmountable on your own. Wondering if you’re going to show up to meet a therapist only to be judged, invalidated, or minimized can make you want to stop the search before you even start. My goal is to provide you with a warm and nonjudgmental space to explore and join with you in the healing process as you navigate the stressors that you are experiencing. I practice through a trauma informed lens and also consider the structures and systems that impact us. I incorporate feminist and liberation psychologies into my work. In partnering together, we can both accelerate the process of insight and change, and also gain more meaningful insights than through self-inquiry alone. I welcome patients from minoritized groups and have broad experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds. I aim to provide an inclusive environment for all people regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

Therapy for Young Adults in NY Young adulthood and being a college student is the time in our life with the most changes in comparison to our entire lifespan. It is when we are trying to establish ourselves as individuals, separate from our families, and acclimate to college life and plan our futures. We are faced with endless opportunities and the freedom may feel scary. Some college students have feelings of anxiety and depression due to the level of independence and feeling a lack of direction. Schedule a consultation with me today so we can get to know each other and see if we're a good fit for therapy.

I'm a clinical psychologist (PhD 1994, U Michigan) with 30 years experience meeting with adolescents, adults from 18-90, and couples. My doctoral research focused on loss and the impact of parental divorce. During my 25 years here I've met with many Cornell students, undergrads and grads. I make use of various approaches (psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive-behavioral), depending on what makes most sense. Family difficulties, romantic relationships, stress of all sorts, procrastination, and being 'stuck' completing academic work are common situations for which I've provided help.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed school psychologist. I hold a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Urban and rural, inpatient and outpatient work settings have taught me about the many challenges an individual may face including experiences of oppression and injustice, as well as a deep appreciation for the richness of the human experience. My style is described as warm, analytical and collaborative, balancing deep emotional work with elements of humor and lightness when appropriate. I aim to help clients address the root of complex challenges, in a safe and supported way. I most enjoy working with anxious kids and families, neurodivergent humans, queer clients, and folks working with depression, trauma, attachment, and identity including DID. I use insight-oriented, mindfulness-based, and systemic approaches including family therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, and emotion-focused work. I seek to help clients understand patterns that may not be serving them, and to hold a safe and empowering space in which positive shifts can occur. I am a student and teacher of yoga and meditation and I often weave these practices into my work with clients. I currently offer virtual therapy to clients in Oregon, New York, Colorado and Vermont.
