Therapists for college students near Nashville, TN
Hi there! We are an outpatient practice offering in-person and virtual appointments. We specialize in working with those navigating the tricky terrain of growing up—dealing with friendship shifts, school pressure, big emotions, and the journey of self-discovery. Many of the clients who find us describe themselves as high-performing yet often struggling with things such as: suspected or diagnosed ADHD, chronic anxiety, burnout, and who are seeking balance amidst life's demands. Their work often centers on identity exploration, navigating interpersonal relationships, building self-esteem, developing a more compassionate relationship with their bodies and food, and adapting to life transitions. Together, we explore how anxiety shows up, how boundaries can feel empowering, and what it looks like to build relationships (with yourself and others) that feel safe, reciprocal, and genuine. Wherever you are in your life journey, we are here to come along side you and support you in the next steps. We truly believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. We encourage you to reach out for a consultation call to determine how we can best support you and answer any questions you might have about the therapy process.
My counseling style is warm and inviting. I believe in being completely non-judgmental, sensitive and compassionate. I want to start where you are wherever you are in your journey through different human experiences. My psychotherapy approach is a combination of cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, interpersonal, solution focused and client centered. I enjoy working with individuals with traits and tendencies of attachment that manifests by way of questioning self-worth, feeling unworthy of love, fear that healthy relationships cannot exist, obsession with loss and difficulty moving forward, taking on others feelings and beliefs as your own, guilt/shame, inability to receive feedback without feelings of failure/rejection and experiencing confusion/seeking clarity around identity. In my down time, I love to relax and have a good time. For fun, I enjoy listening to music and singing, traveling, trying new restaurants and foods, reading, laughing and spending time with loved ones.

When I began college it was 8 years after high school and I was married. I was anxious that I may not be able to get the degrees that I wanted after being out of school for so long, but I was experiencing childlessness and wanted to be a mother. Keeping busy was something that I needed due to major depression. We did not have free college opportunities then, so I had to make the grades in order to finance this endeavor. This became a goal which required good study habits and commitment. I attended a community college first, then UTC, and then I completed my masters at Grand Canyon University with a 4.0 GPA. This paid for all of the undergraduate work but not for my Master's, which landed me in debt, but I survived. I have been an entrepreneur for 4 decades of various specialties, and have worn many hats. I love music, art, and journalism which have become most beneficial. I have written 37 songs and intend to write a book soon. I went through 6 surgeries to have my two daughters and have 3 special needs grandchildren and one special needs daughter. I have always loved people. I do not see a stranger. I am a Daughter of the Revolution, and take my country seriously to heart. Also, I am learning ASL and hope to be able to add this population to my clientele. As a small agency, we do not have interpreters for the deaf but do provide a list of practitioners who do. Hiwassee Mental Health, Heidi Ables, and other larger organizations can provide the deaf with interpreter services. We do have Spanish and facilities for those in wheel chairs to aid with those special needs. We work with individuals, groups, families, and do certified classes for anger management, A&D Prevention, and Parenting. We work with ages 4-100 since each of us have special populations in which we prioritize. Please refer to www.healhopecounseling.com to read our articles, blogs/posts and see if we are a good fit. I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression or have been through tough times and want to heal from trauma. College specifically can be a difficult time emotionally, moving into adulthood and living on your own for the first time. Therapy can be a great way to process these changes, learn new ways to cope with stress, and get resources and support. I'd love to chat.

I get it. It you're going through a lot each day, feeling like you have to be perfect at everything you try and always needing to make sure everyone else is happy. This can leave you feeling totally worn out, like you're constantly running on empty, and still that nagging feeling of "never enough" just won't go away. Maybe you're carrying worries and stress around with you all the time, and perhaps some tough things from the past are making things even harder. Please know that I see how much you're dealing with, and I'm here to help you find a way through this. Together, we can gently work on these patterns so you can start feeling less pressured and more truly content in your life. I focus specifically on helping people who struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and that "never enough" feeling, along with related stress and anxiety. I understand how these issues connect for you. Clients often choose me because they feel truly understood and see a clear path towards lasting relief, not just quick fixes. Imagine finding a calm and comfortable space in your own home for our sessions. It will feel like a private conversation in a calm and comfortable space. We'll gently explore those habits of trying to be perfect and always saying "yes," understanding where they came from and how they affect you now. I'll listen with a warm and open heart, creating a safe space for you to share without judgment, all from the comfort of your surroundings. Together, we'll learn to set healthy boundaries, be kinder to yourself, and truly believe in your worth, right from where you feel most at ease. You'll gain simple ways to handle stress and worries. As we connect, you'll hopefully feel that pressure to be perfect ease, find it easier to say "no," and feel more calm and present in your day, leading to more energy and peace within yourself. For our sessions, imagine a calm and comfortable space around your school or in your dorm where you can truly feel safe and open up. Building trust is really important here; I want you to feel completely yourself, knowing I'm listening with genuine understanding and without judgment. That said, don’t think that I’m only here to provide the non-judgmental listening, I will give healthy pushbacks and help challenge those unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Together, we'll explore the issues that have been holding you back, understanding their roots and their impact. As partners, we'll work on setting healthy boundaries, cultivating self-compassion, and recognizing your inherent worth, empowering you with practical tools to handle stress and worries as you move towards a life with less pressure, more genuine connection, and a deeper sense of your own "enoughness."
My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and mindfulness. I have particular experience working with grief, identity exploration, chronic illness, spirituality, LGBTQ health, and women’s health. I also work with clients who feel disconnected from their purpose or who are navigating major shifts in their sense of self. Our work will begin with your story, and from there, we will collaboratively create a plan to address your goals. My aim is to help clients access their own wisdom, find relief from emotional distress, deepen self-awareness, and experience greater self-compassion. In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I have worked as an interfaith hospital chaplain, supporting patients, families, and staff during moments of intense vulnerability and uncertainty. This experience informs my work, allowing me to hold space for life’s deepest questions and existential concerns. My approach to spirituality is non-prescriptive, honoring each person’s unique beliefs, values, and ways of making meaning.

I am accepting new clients and have a secure HIPPA compliant online video chat service if you prefer online sessions. I enter the therapy space and relationship with you with acceptance and no judgment. We all have struggled with things and sometimes we need a little help to get unstuck or a new perspective. Victor E. Frankl said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” Are you feeling overwhelmed and have more anxiety than usual and notice your body and mind are stressed out daily? Maybe you are feeling stagnant and stuck in some way (at work, at home, and/or socially) and can’t seem to move from that stuck place. Are you experiencing conflict or agitation with yourself or with others and your relationships? Are you finding yourself ruminating or obsessively thinking about the past and/or the future and not able to stay focused and/or enjoy the moments you have each day? No matter your age, religion, race, sexual orientation and where you are on life’s continuum, I will hold healing and safe space for you. I will work with you to navigate life’s rough waters and paths and help you find meaning, explore options, and work towards solutions that are acceptable and obtainable for you. I do not fear your problems, trauma, grief, and/or challenges. I am not afraid to go with you to the hard places in the heart, mind, and body. I too have experienced trauma and grief, and have done my own self-work. I will work with you and be vulnerable with you because I believe and trust that my story and life’s experiences are my wisdom to help others gain theirs. Please contact me and we can begin your journey to healing.
I work with clients who are dealing with challenges related to life change and transition, self identity and growth, anxiety and stress. I am passionate about helping people discover their ability to find fulfillment while coping with pain and navigating struggle.
In this era of technology and quick fixes, it easy for one to think "I did ____wrong, I'm so broken and will never ____." If you are a person thinking this, you are missing a very important fact. You are a person, not a computer, or car, or toy, or any other object that needs to be fixed. Patterns are a different thing altogether. At Breaking Patterns Therapy, we believe that patterns of thought and behavior can be broken or altered in a way to allow you to live the life that you want to be living. We use a combination of therapy types, but at the end of the day, it is the relationship and conversation between the client and the therapist that find the new patterns that make life a little bit kinder. We look forward to helping you discover and remake those patterns.
