Therapists for college students near New York University
Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what’s going on internally? Whether you’re wrestling with academic pressures, struggling to understand why certain tasks feel harder than they should, or wondering if there’s more to why you feel anxious or disconnected, I’m here to help you find clarity and answers. I’m a psychologist in New York City with a focus on assessments that go beyond surface-level challenges, helping students like you understand who they are and what they need to succeed. Many of the students who find testing helpful are motivated, thoughtful, and want to know themselves better. They may feel like no matter how hard they try, something still feels off, or they feel out of sync with others. If you’ve been wondering if there’s a reason behind your difficulties with focus, social interactions, anxiety, or even low moods, psychological testing can help reveal what’s happening beneath the surface. I work especially well with students who want a deeper understanding of themselves, so they can navigate college life, relationships, and personal goals with confidence. The results of testing shouldn’t feel like another test to understand. My approach is about making sense of what’s going on in a clear, accessible way. My goal is for you to feel equipped to take on college – and life – with greater self-awareness and practical tools that work for you.

Hi, I’m Mirabelle. I bring a warm and patient curiosity to my clients that creates a supportive, nonjudgmental space to explore what has brought you into therapy. Before working in private practice, I was a hospice social worker supporting people facing terminal illnesses and their caregivers. Accompanying people through illness and death has given me a reverence for existential questions and transitions––for what it really means to be alive. I understand therapy as a space to explore these questions. My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic, which means we will discover how your early experiences and relationships, as well as your unconscious life, shape your present. We will move at the pace that feels right for you. Together, we will find the words to make meaning out of your experience. Our work will help to reduce the symptoms that are causing you problems as well as deepen your connection to yourself and others. I am guided by anti-oppressive principles. In addition to my work in hospice, I have worked in community based and outpatient mental health settings with queer folks, people with serious mental illness and personality disorders, and complex trauma. I enjoy working with people who have received mental health diagnoses, and themes related to illness and medical trauma.
Growing up with learning disabilities, I had an experience that is all too familiar for the neurodivergent community. Often feeling misunderstood and out of place, I was faced with indifference, ignorance, neglect, gaslighting, shame, and the assumption that I could navigate a world that was not built for me without the support I so badly needed. Lonely, adrift, and struggling to find a sense of belonging, I was cast aside and left to fend for myself. After a series of negative experiences with mental health resources and support, my personal journey led me to a couples therapist in 2014. There, I embarked on a journey of transformation, and I was able to see the profound impact that the right therapy relationship could have on a person. It was then that I was introduced to Gestalt psychotherapy, which I immediately connected with. From there, I set forth on a new journey to study Gestalt psychotherapy at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy, a post-graduate training program. Pursuing this path, I have continued to experience connectedness, belonging, compassion, the wonder of curiosity, and love itself. Arriving at this place of acceptance and understanding changed everything for me. Understanding that this positive experience is not the norm for members of the neurodivergent community, I decided to dedicate myself to providing that same transformation for others. With this mission, I founded Welcome Home Healing in 2023. Since then, I have had the pleasure of helping many clients embrace their own innate worth, gifts, individuality, and the freedom to shed their masks of shame and self doubt.

As a social worker and psychotherapist with 8 years of experience, I offer collaborative, open, and nonjudgmental care for people interested in coming into deeper relationships with their full selves. I particularly enjoy working with caregivers, artists, neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ folks, and creative people who are navigating questions about identity, relationships, and belonging. Many come to therapy burdened by beliefs that stem from systemic oppression, trauma, or early relational experiences. They may struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, dissociation, or the pressure to care for others at the expense of themselves. They’re looking for a space where they can slow down, tune-in, and make sense of their inner world. Their goals may include building more authentic relationships, developing greater self-compassion, and finding ways to live and create in a more full and embodied way. If this resonates with your search for greater mental wellness, please reach out today. I look forward to building a connection as your honest and participatory partner, embarking on this journey together through a systems-based and anti-oppressive lens tailored to your unique strengths and desires for change. I offer a therapeutic holding environment grounded in careful listening, curiosity, and the shared messiness and delight of being human. My work is relational and psychodynamic, meaning we explore how past and present relationships shape our emotional lives while working together toward deeper self-understanding, greater self-compassion, and more freedom in how you relate to yourself and others. Therapy with me makes room for opposites – we can acknowledge the patterns that helped you survive, and that they might be causing you difficulty right now. We can hold grief and hope in the same hour. And, we can move slowly and intentionally through these contradictions together. I am dedicated to bringing warmth, honesty, and a bit of humor into the room as we explore these patterns and emotions, including how they show up between us and in the words you choose. While we do this deeper work, I integrate Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to support you in concretely managing day-to-day challenges and holding the immense complexity this world has to offer us. My path to becoming a therapist began with providing home visits to LGBTQ+ older adults. In this work, I became familiar with the unique challenges and resiliencies that queer people and communities build over their lifespans. This experience deepened my commitment to providing open, nonjudgemental, and trauma-informed care. This is assured by listening with a careful presence that is affirming of kink, sex work, and polyamory in every session. In my free time, I love expressing my creative side through crafts like knitting and embroidery, reading, and cooking. I also enjoy spending time with my foster cats!
Whether you're working through the weight of complex family dynamics, struggling to understand how your past is shaping your present, or simply trying to find your footing, you've come to the right place. As a Licensed Master Social Worker with five years of experience, my work centers on helping people navigate anxiety, depression, and major life transitions. While much of my work connects deeply with people in their 20s and 30s, these experiences are universal, and anyone navigating similar challenges is welcome here. My goal is to help you make sense of what you're going through, better understand yourself, and find a path forward that feels clear, realistic, and genuinely meaningful. Therapy with me is grounded, honest, and real. You won't have to meet me halfway; I'll meet you exactly where you are. The way we relate to ourselves and others is often shaped by patterns formed long before we were aware of them. Understanding where those patterns come from, and how they're affecting your life today, is at the heart of how we'll work together. My approach is warm, curious, and completely nonjudgmental. Drawing from an integrative framework that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we'll explore what's keeping you stuck and build the insight and tools needed to move forward in a way that feels sustainable. Sessions are collaborative by design, shaped around your unique needs, goals, and experiences. My style is direct and down to earth, because the most meaningful progress happens when things are broken down in a way that feels clear, practical, and relevant to your life. Having faced my own mental health challenges and experienced firsthand what it feels like to have those concerns dismissed, I came to this work with deep conviction. Normalizing mental health conversations and creating a space where you feel genuinely understood isn't just a professional value; it's a personal one. Every session, I bring a warm, direct, and grounded presence with the intention of making sure you never feel unheard. Outside of sessions, you can find me catching up on the latest shows and films, hunting for new music, or heading to Pilates. Reading, crocheting, and other crafts give me a creative outlet I genuinely love, and I'm always up for a good shopping trip or the chance to explore somewhere new. Travel, in particular, feeds my curiosity in ways that carry right back into the work.
Whether you're going through a difficult life transition, need to process painful or traumatic events, need help managing complex emotions, or want to strengthen your relationships with your family, friends, or yourself, I am here to collaborate with you to figure out the best path forward. Therapy illuminates the patterns we find ourselves in, and also provides ways of coping with the distress resulting from these patterns. Through understanding how our past and present circumstances affect us, we cultivate empathy for ourselves and those around us. I believe in the healing nature of a strong therapeutic relationship. I will work to facilitate growth in your natural areas of strength, while also deepening your understanding of what causes pain. My approach is collaborative and individualized, and includes Relational Psychodynamic techniques, metaphor, CBT techniques, and/or Mindfulness. I look forward to hearing from you, and to learn about how we can work together!
Are you naturally empathic, maybe having been labeled as “too sensitive?" at some point in your life? Using Brainspotting (a trauma intervention like EMDR) and IFS (a body-based parts work modality), I support deep-feeling queer, neurodivergent, and creative clients navigating anxiety, depression, struggles with self-love, parental/family dysfunction, and more - through the lens of social justice and the power of radical self compassion. Working together, we will sift through what you truly desire & the old messages that might be standing in your way.
Our NYC-based practice specializes in anxiety and OCD treatment for college students and young adults. Many of the students we work with are high achievers who are used to pushing through, but are finding that anxiety, overthinking, or burnout are becoming harder to manage. This often shows up as getting stuck in your head, feeling overwhelmed by academic or social pressure, or getting caught in patterns of procrastination, perfectionism, or avoidance. For some, OCD or panic are a big part of the picture. College also brings a new level of independence, and managing academics, friendships, and daily life on your own can make these patterns feel more intense. Our approach is warm, structured, and grounded, focused on helping you understand what’s keeping you stuck, build practical skills, and feel more confident navigating this stage of life.
Interactive Discovery provides, individual, couples, family, and group therapy services. We also conduct neuropsychological evaluations and psycho-educational evaluations. Our dedication to teamwork has always been a cornerstone of our group's philosophy. Guided by this shared mission, ID has successfully brought together a diverse group of clinicians from various backgrounds, all of whom embrace an eclectic approach to mental health.
Are you seeking support as you move through difficult emotions, life changes, or other challenges affecting your overall well-being? As a mental health counselor, I support children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, and periods of adjustment or transition. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, develop healthy coping strategies, and work toward greater balance, confidence, and personal growth. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported in their mental health journey, and I understand that beginning therapy can feel intimidating. Making the process feel comfortable and approachable matters to me, so know that you don’t have to navigate difficult moments alone. Together, we can create a space to explore your experiences and work toward your goals. I look forward to supporting you on that journey toward greater well-being. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and a humanistic, patient-centered approach to meet each person where they are, using these tools to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing effective coping strategies. This approach is compassionate, collaborative, and supportive, grounded in the belief that therapy should feel like a genuine human connection. Because therapy is most effective when patients feel comfortable being their authentic selves, I tailor my approach to your unique needs, experiences, and goals. I'm passionate about creating a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and understood while developing the tools and insight you need to navigate challenges and move toward meaningful growth. My path to becoming a therapist began with a genuine love for people and a deep curiosity about what helps us heal and grow. As someone from a LatinX background, I have witnessed and experienced the struggles and stigma that can surround mental health and understand how difficult it can be to take the first step toward seeking support. These experiences deepened my commitment to making therapy feel approachable, comfortable, and inclusive. I bring this same warmth, curiosity, and a genuine desire to understand each person's unique story to my work with patients. Pilates has become part of my weekly routine, and when I'm not on the mat, I'm usually curled up with a good book — I love murder mysteries, thrillers, romance, and the occasional fantasy novel. At home, I have an anxious dog I love to spoil, and I'm working on becoming more of a plant mom. I also enjoy baking.

Hi, I’m Kelsey (she/her). As a psychotherapist, I encourage open communication and reflection, creating a space where we can navigate your unique experiences, including anxiety, relationship patterns, self-exploration, disordered eating, obsessive thoughts, family dynamics, and life transitions. With a foundation in a relational approach, I view the therapeutic relationship as an essential tool for exploring relational patterns, attachment, and opportunities for healing and change. I have a passion for supporting individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community and warmly welcome clients of all identities, recognizing how gender, race, sexuality, and privilege shape our mental health and experiences. My approach is holistic, trauma-focused and person-centered, drawing from Psychodynamic Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and somatic work. I’m looking forward to getting to know you as we work together.
Welcome! I'm Casey Nordberg, a Limited Permit Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) in Brooklyn. I work with individuals of all ages, specializing in trauma, attachment and relationship issues, and life transitions. With a background working with families in child welfare and private practice, I bring a nuanced perspective to the therapeutic space, creating a safe environment for a diverse population of patients to explore the experiences that have shaped who they are today. This person-centered, compassion-driven lens supports those navigating emotional struggles, relationship challenges, and feelings of stagnation. In a fast-moving city that often rewards us for pushing forward at the expense of our well-being, taking the step to seek support shows real bravery, and I don't take that courage and trust lightly. I believe everyone has lived experience worth exploring with care, and I'm honored to help you find insight into your history and clarity on the steps ahead as I get to know you and we start this journey together. I am dedicated to meeting you where you are, centering your experiences as we work together to understand and move through what's difficult. Because life's ruptures most often occur in the context of relationships, I believe that building a healing, reparative relationship is one of the most important parts of therapy. That’s why I lead with empathy and warmth, taking a holistic, culturally humble approach, integrating relational and psychodynamic work with evidence-based strategies like motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness techniques, so that treatment can be tailored to what actually fits your life. In our work together, we'll collaborate to understand and gently challenge the thought patterns and behaviors that keep you feeling stuck, while honoring the role these strategies have played in helping you survive difficult experiences in the past. From there, we'll find the tools and coping skills that feel right for you, working toward clarity, self-compassion, and meaningful, sustainable change. My path to becoming a therapist began with stressful experiences within my own family growing up: illness and loss, family members' mental illness and substance misuse, and the complex relational dynamics that come with intergenerational trauma and colliding cultural norms. This experience shaped my interest in child and family mental health, and my drive to walk alongside people of all ages as they make sense of what they've been through. Outside of the therapy room, I love spending time in nature, exploring parks around the city on walks, going on runs, and picnics. Coming from a family of artists and creatives, I enjoy dancing to live music, visiting art museums, and painting with watercolors. On lower-key days, I adore curling up with a cup of tea, a good book, and my two cats.
Welcome to my practice. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York. I have practiced individual and couple therapy with adults independently since 2005. With extensive experience and advanced training in both the cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic traditions, I specialize in helping individuals who struggle in stormy relationships, those who feel lonely or isolated, and those who too often feel frustrated and disappointed by themselves and their interactions with others, including in past experiences of psychotherapy. They may have experienced trauma or other early life stress, and may feel anxious and depressed. They may have been diagnosed with mood or personality disorders. Some have struggled to stay alive. I follow an integrative model comprised of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. I completed intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and have practiced it extensively since 2005. I try to help people explore how their early experiences may still be affecting their thoughts, feelings and actions, and to try out alternatives. Before shifting to a fully independent practice in 2016, I was a supervising psychologist in a specialized program for the treatment of personality disorders. There I led DBT and interpersonal process groups, conducted individual therapy and assessments and supervised psychology interns. I welcome people from all backgrounds into my practice. I have found that a close examination of cultural, religious, gender and other factors can illuminate a person's current ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. Professional Education: William Alanson White Institute EDCAS training progam for treating those with eating disorders, compulsions and addictions Intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through BehavioralTech VA Special Fellowship Program in Advanced Psychiatry and Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in AD/HD Center, Mount Sinai School of Medicine Ph.D., Clinical Psychology, Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus M.A., General Psychology, New York University B.A., Barnard College of Columbia University
If you feel overwhelmed by life's pressures or stuck in a period of change, I’m here to offer practical, evidence-based tools to help you regain balance, process difficult emotions, and build resilience. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with nearly a decade of experience helping adults of all backgrounds, ages 18 and older, navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, and systemic stress. Faith-based counseling is also available for those who prefer it to help align your mental health journey with your Christian values. Taking the leap into therapy takes real courage, but you don't have to carry life's weight by yourself. In our time together, I build an authentic, non-judgmental alliance that lets me be a grounded, compassionate partner every step of the way. I look forward to helping you step into greater clarity, emotional ease, and self-confidence as we work together. My approach to care is trauma-informed, collaborative, and culturally responsive, as I'm passionate about empowering you with practical, evidence-based tools while honoring your unique values, identity, and personal background. Together, we'll build a warm, grounded environment where that work can happen. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches to help you address immediate challenges while exploring deeper root barriers when it's helpful. This integrative, person-centered style means I tailor my approach to your unique needs, goals, and definition of progress. I believe you are the true expert of your own life, and my role is to guide and equip you with tools that meet you where you are. If you thrive with actionable homework, you can count on it; if not, we'll skip it. Above all, our sessions are a safe, supportive space where you can feel fully heard, seen, and empowered to grow on your own terms. My path to becoming a therapist began earlier than I even realized—I was actually a peer mediator in elementary school with a natural draw toward supporting others. That memory had completely slipped my mind until I stumbled upon my elementary school yearbook as an adult. It was hilarious reflecting on what "big issues" kids were having at that age, but it was also a moving confirmation that this work is my true calling. On a deeper level, having navigated my own profound personal challenges gave me a first-hand window into how exhausting life can be when no one knows what is happening behind your eyes. That experience deepened my commitment to providing care where you never have to pretend. I bring authentic warmth, deep empathy, and a safe space to each session so you can finally drop the mask, set down the forced smile, and be fully seen. I am a big believer in holistic wellness and finding joy in the everyday. Outside of work, I love going to the gym, exploring nature (anything from a peaceful park walk to a hike), and tapping into my creative side through art, including painting, sketching, and coloring.
